Pornify BDSM — No More Taboo?

In my sizable collection of mainstream porn movies you will find more and more movies which are attempting to borrow from the BDSM genre. Many of the toys I have recommended you can now a days find in a completely innocent “belladonna Production”. Gags, whips and paddles, albeit most of the time used like little play-toys, are probably nothing new to the seasoned porn star.

The world of fetish is becoming rapidly associated with the world of Pron as well. Whether it is latex outfits or latex bondage tape,. many fetish models are not exactly shy and nude camera work is often linked to pornographic content. As much as that association is wrong for those of us truly interested in the erotic aspects of fetish lingerie, dress and outfits, it is an association easily made by the more mainstream consumer.

Which leads me to one question. What happens as soon as the mainstream consumer accepts the world of BDSM and Fetish as just another niche that can be safely consumed? Does it take one medium that is undoubtedly consumed by almost anyone, namely pornographic content, to move a more niche lifestyle into the limelight and make it acceptable?

All joking aside I would stipulate that in most countries in the demographic up to around 40 pornographic content and the industry attached to it has been accepted as a viable personal choice for those people that are a part of it. As such that industry has advertised and in some cases moved behaviours, positions and sex itself out of the corner of being a total taboo. Is a taboo still a taboo once it has been taken out of the closet and made a public commodity?

If those porn starlets which are so dear to some consumers all of a sudden exhibit a submissive streak, accept that they are being used, exposed and wrapped in those “perverted” toys, does that make it “Ok” in the eyes of their fans?

Should I be thanking studios like kink.com for inaugurating the various special interest sites that they run, where they freely utilise well known porn starlets as the ones being abused? Undoubtedly because their name in the industry draws clicks and clicks are good, they bring consumers.

If we as a pool of individuals that have a common understanding of what we want do not stand up and expose ourselves than it is only fair that others shall do it for us? My problem with that line of thought is probably inherent to who I am. I hate the idea of not having control over how others perceive the lifestyle.

As much as I like porn I also understand that it is a busy and most of the images brought to my brain are an idealistic representation of something that does not reflect the real world at all. The girl next door is usually not capable of shoving a fist up her ass and her husband does not have a 9 inch by 2 inch cock either. Just as we have come to accept that many of the things we see in a porno are illusions I would not want anyone to make that association when it comes to having kink or fetish displayed in one of those mainstream productions.

Sometimes it pains me how gags are used and the rather pointless tapping of a flogger against a starlets ass only as an introduction into a standard suck and fuck scene. There might be serious BDSM productions out there, but their very nature caters to a niche audience. A very important audience but an audience that is normally not reached by the plethora of mainstream porn.

Personally I believe there are enough porno starlets out there which exhibit truly submissive behaviour. Either that or they are all very talented actresses. Movies such as Rocco’s “The Fashionistas” try to tap that potential but I do not think that they go far enough. Same goes for the “Sex Slave” series, while they utilise some of the harsher behaviour in the genre and they sport some of the more depraved starlets of the industry, it is still not portrayed as “normal”.

In summary I have to concede to the fact that I want our lifestyle to have more exposure and anything that can remove the taboo from kink should be considered a good thing. Unfortunately the world is not as black and white we should have a very careful look at some of the misrepresentations we all might be confronted with in the future. People naturally fear what they do not understand. We should be very careful who we choose to be their teacher.
